PTO
Throughout the school year, the Morgan PTO sponsors several events and fundraisers. The following is a list and description of each of them. Parent volunteers and community help are a huge part of the success of these programs and Morgan Elementary. Please consider what you may be willing to help with.
Paragon
This is our first and most profitable fundraiser of the year. At the beginning of school, a representative from Paragon will come to the school with the fundraiser catalogs and order forms. They will show the children the incentive prizes that they could win. The catalogs will be sent home with the kids. The merchandise ordered will be sent to the school for the the kids to bring home, deliver, and collect money for. Incentive prizes are based on total items sold per child. The child with the most items sold will win a bonus prize. In addition, every child returning all of their money on or before the due date will be put into another drawing.
Spring Festival
In March, we will be having our 1st annual Spring Festival. The Spring Festival includes a silent auction, chili supper, games for the kids, and silent auction. During the weeks leading up to this event, we will be asking for donations of time, 2 liters, and basket fillers. We will also ask for auction items to be donated. If you are a business owner or your employer would like to donate to the cause, please contact a PTO member. It is crucial that we receive volunteers who are willing to run the games. This would consist of a 2 hour shift of running games.
Santa's Secret Shop
Right before Christmas break, the PTO opens a store filled with inexpensive items that your children can purchase to give as gifts to their loved ones. The kids love this store, because they can buy these gifts without you seeing and maybe have a secret on that special morning. Volunteers are needed to help the kids shop, this could be 2 hrs or all day.
Breakfast with Santa
Santa Claus makes an annual appearance to Morgan during our last week of school before break. Every child receives a donut and milk while visiting with Santa, compliments of the Morgan PTO and Staff.
Accelerated Reader or AR
AR is one of our finest programs. It encourages children to read books and tests their comprehension. Every time a child reads a book from the AR program and passes the corresponding test, the child earns points. After certain points are earned, the child earns prizes. The Mega Movie event is for kids that have 100 or more points. The AR125 field trip, possibly Big Splash Water Park, is for kids with 125 points or above. The kids love the competitiveness of this program. Through funds raised, each year, the PTO purchases books and prizes for this program.
Book Of the Month
This program is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Each year the librarian will choose a list of books to be read. Students must then read and pass the corresponding test. These books are chapter books and require some dedication. The children are rewarded with a special field trip, for those that successfully read and passed 8 tests.
Perfect Attendance Drawing
Morgan Elementary is an EXCELLENT place to get an education. The key to getting the full experience is being HERE! To encourage attendance, every 6 weeks, the PTO sponsors a $10.00 drawing for perfect attendance. At the award program, the children's names with perfect attendance go into a hat for the drawing.
PTO T-Shirts
Every year the PTO, along with many community sponsors, fund our Morgan Elementary T-shirts. Each grade has a unique color and look great on field trips. They will be sent home with your child a few weeks into the school year.
Field Trip Bus Fees
Many parents are not aware of the additional costs involved in our field trips. The PTO compensates the bus drivers for their time and use of buses.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheons
The PTO sponsors 3 lunches throughout the year, Parent/Teacher conference day, Christmas, and Teacher Appreciation week. We may ask for desserts to be donated for these events. This is a great way for us to thank our teachers for working so hard for our great kids.
Career Fair Day
This day is sponsored by our counselor, Angela Martin, and our PTO. This is a day where a variety of businesses and professionals tell the kids about their jobs and day to day lives. Volunteers are needed for this day to help the professional hand out items, insure that the students are attentive, and to assist the professional with any props that they may have.
Box Tops for Education
Every year Morgan participates in the year long fund raiser with General Mills Box Tops for Education. On certain General Mills products you will find the rectangular stamp. Send these stamps to the school. We send them in. General Mills reimburses us $.10 for each stamp mailed in. Make sure you check your receipts from Jay C, Kroger, and Meijer. Sometimes they have a stamp worth 100 box tops!
